7 Ways On How to Get Rid of Pimples

Pimples refer to lesions of the skins that result from trapping of excess oil in the pores of the skin. Pimples may present as either comedones (whiteheads and blackheads) or may take up more severe forms such as papules and pustules. A number of remedies exist for pimples and below is a detailed list on how to get rid of pimples.

1.Use of Benzoyl Peroxide

This is one of the mainstay treatments of pimples. Bactericidal to the bacteria believed to cause pimples such as Propioniobacterium acnes, this agent resolves pimples at concentrations of 2.5% to 10%.

With use either singly or in combination with antibiotics or inflammatory agents such as salicylic acid, this agent has been found to be very effective; and has the additional advantage of not causing antibiotic resistance.

2. Use of Anti-inflammatory Agents

Though the cause of pimples is multifactorial, inflammation is one of the contributing factors to development of pimples. As such agents that serve to reduce inflammation tend to resolve pimples.

Amongst the mainstay anti-inflammatory treatments for pimples is salicylic acid. This acid is comedolytic, bacteriostatic and opens up pores that had been clogged up with oils contributing to pimple development. This agent is an inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, responsible for the release of inflammatory mediators in the body.

Formulated at between pH3 and pH4, this agent is applied at the affected region causing drying up of the excess oil causing the pimples.

Other anti-inflammatory interventions that can be used in place of salicylic acid include an aspirin mask, with a similar mode of action to salicylic acid, an icepack applied over the affected area in cases of mild pimples, and for more serious cases of pimples, use of steroids such as betamethasone or hydrocortisone, though these are to be indicated only by a qualified dermatologist.

3. Use of Azelaic acid

This is an organic acid that possesses comedolytic, anti-inflammatory and keratolytic attributes. It is usually indicated for mild and moderate cases of pimples. It is also bactericidal to a perceived causative agent, Propioniobacterium acnes.

4. Use of Retinol Products

Part of the Vitamin A complex, over the counter retinol can be used to get rid of of pimples. This product works by drying out the pimples and if used, moisturizers should also be used concomitantly to prevent excessive drying of the skin. Consultation with a dermatologist is also recommended before adopting this remedy in order to know the exact effects of retinol on your skin.

5. Use of Exfoliators

These help in getting rid of the dead cells o the skin as well as opening up the pores that had been clogged on the skin. As such, accumulated fat and dead cells are shed, resolving pimples. A konjac sponge is a good example of an exfoliator to use.

6. Use of Essential Oils

These oils soothe the skin in addition to having bactericidal attributes. Application once daily of the oils such as Neem oil and diluted Tea-tree oil on the affected area may help to completely get rid of your pimples.

7. Use of Natural remedies

Other natural remedies that can be employed in the management of pimples include use of garlic which is an antiseptic and causes drying of oil because of it sulfur content, use of honey which is a natural skin purifier and bactericidal and the use of papaya. Turmeric paste and cucumber masks may also be of great help in resolving pimples on your skin. Hygiene also plays a very important part in resolving pimples.
